As I mentioned in the post – my microwave is 750w and anyone using a higher wattage one will likely have to use both less time and stir more often =) If Pat’s microwave was lower then yup, that could have had an impact on it setting properly and you’d have to go a bit longer. The key is to look for the start of it changing to a slightly darker caramel tone =)

Hi, just wondered what wattage your microwave is if Pat had trouble with it setting? I could maybe give it longer if thats the case.

I’m almost tempted to give onion sets a try as, for some reason, I really want to grow some onions at home! There must be something, somewhere, which subconsciously urges us all to grow onions ;) Maybe we should do an onion growing garden-blogger challenge and see if the collective enthusiasm helps bring on better growth, haha.
Your tomatoes did look fabulous – I was following them with envy (and your potatoes!). I don’t know if I have the patience to baby them as much as they need in these northerly, damp climes.

You’re very organised, planning for next year already! I keep telling myself I should really give up on onions, but I’m determined to get a decent crop one of these days. It’s a shame you haven’t had much luck with tomatoes – mine have blown me away this year!

It does take a while to set – usually several hours depending on how thick a tray you’ve used. If it just won’t set at all I’m not sure what you’d do with it as I’ve never had it fail for me, sorry =(

I’ve no idea what I did to my nasturtiums this year – last year by this time I only had two straggly wee plants which were barely more than a handspan across. The ones I’m growing now seem monstrous by comparison!

Good stuff! That nasturtium salad looks great. Our nasturtiums are being really slow this year and I can’t imagine why – we’re normally swamped in the things by now!

I think being determined to grow things no matter how little the space helps when trying to grow edibles in a back garden – oh and lots of planters ;) I love the idea of an allotment, but I don’t know if I’d connect with it the same way as I do with my garden – I love just being able to walk outside and pick things to eat.

Wonderful to see veggies being grown in a regular back garden. It shows that everyone can do it if they want to.
